Pollution Control Officer FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions on Pollution Control Officer (PCO) Accreditation and Responsibilities.
Answer: No, there is no standard salary rate or package for a Pollution Control Officer. Compensation is subject to negotiation and agreement between the individual and the employer.
Answer: Yes, it is imperative to inform the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) upon resignation. The DENR will proceed to cancel your accreditation that was linked to your previous employer. Failure to do so could lead to complications in future employment and potential legal repercussions.
Answer: The responsibility for environmental violations is a complex issue and depends on the specific circumstances of the case. However, if the Pollution Control Officer failed to inform the Managing Head of the potential for violation beforehand, this could constitute gross negligence on the part of the PCO. Both the PCO and the Managing Head can be held jointly and severally liable for violations of DENR-related laws and regulations.
Answer: No, according to the stipulations of DENR Administrative Order 2014 – 02, a PCO cannot serve in this capacity for more than one establishment at a time.
Answer: No, completion of the Basic PCO Training does not automatically confer the status of an accredited Pollution Control Officer. Accreditation is a separate process and is contingent upon being a full-time employee of an establishment requiring a PCO. Without this employment and the subsequent Certificate of Accreditation, you are neither an accredited PCO nor a PCO itself.
